Jason Gonzalez is a founding shareholder of Lawson Huck Gonzalez, PLLC and one of Florida’s most experienced appellate and litigation attorneys, who also counsels clients on executive-branch government affairs. He represents businesses and state agencies in state and federal courts across contracts, government procurement, insurance disputes, class actions, tort defense, banking and finance, professional licensing, and election matters.

Appellate and high-stakes litigation

Jason has repeatedly stood at the forefront of Florida’s most consequential legal developments. He recently advocated for business-association clients in two amicus briefs before the Florida Supreme Court supporting adoption of the federal summary-judgment standard — a change widely regarded as the most significant reform of Florida’s civil justice system in the modern era. In 2019, Florida Politics reported that Jason was representing parties in more pending civil cases before the Florida Supreme Court than any other attorney in the state.

In 2010, Jason served as lead counsel for Transocean Ltd. in its Florida Panhandle litigation and regulatory matters immediately following the Deepwater Horizon explosion. Over roughly two years, he obtained orders dismissing or removing every one of the more than seventy individual and class action lawsuits filed against Transocean in Florida.

Public service and leadership

Before co-founding the firm, Jason served as General Counsel to the Governor of Florida. He has served on the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission, as Chairman of the First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission, and as Chairman of the Second Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, and he served two terms as General Counsel and as a former Executive Board member of the Republican Party of Florida.
