Biography

Indra Cantillo Mejuto is an associate attorney at Lawson Huck Gonzalez, PLLC in Miami, specializing in International Commercial Law and Governmental Commercial Policies. With over a decade of experience in both government and private sectors, Indra brings a deep understanding of international business, trade policy, and government regulations.

Before joining the firm, Indra served for eleven years as a government attorney in Cuba, advising the Foreign Trade Minister on complex international investments, trade relations, and government contracts. She played a key role in fostering engagements between the Cuban government and international markets, including the United States, China, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Venezuela. Indra facilitated collaborations between U.S. companies, including Engage Cuba, D17 Strategies, Cargill, Marriott, ASCOA, WeWork, Rimco, The Meyers Group, and Rabinowitz, Boudin, Standard, Krinsky & Lieberman, as well as organizations such as the Metropolitan Washington D.C. Council of Governments, the Department of Small and Local Business Development of Washington, D.C.,OFAC, among others.

Indra was instrumental in joint ventures and major transactional projects, including the Special Economic Development Zone at the Port of Mariel — a $957 million joint venture between Cuba and Brazil, which stood as Cuba’s largest investment project in years. She also worked extensively on auditing commercial relationships, navigating Cuba’s complex bidding regulations, and ensuring compliance with national and international law. Her legal expertise includes corporate governance, shareholder agreements, and investment law.

As a key member of the Cuban Committee of Foreign Investment, Indra provided legal counsel on foreign capital proposals, corporate documentation, and shareholders’ meetings. She also played an active role in the 2014 reform of Cuba’s Foreign Trade Investment Law. Indra is deeply committed to helping clients navigate complex regulatory environments, identify strategic commercial opportunities, and achieve success in a globalized marketplace.

Indra holds a dual degree LL.M. in Transactional Law and Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Miami School of Law (2023). She also earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Havana (2006), equivalent to a U.S. JD.
